This year has been especially difficult for many families across Lane County. With the economic disruptions caused by the pandemic and with the recent rise in food prices, families living on low incomes with children are struggling even more. Your gift will be put to immediate use to provide food for a family in need, like Caity’s.

Caity’s situation was tough. She was a single mom struggling to feed her daughter. Caity was born with Spina Bifida which caused paralysis from the waist down.

“Sometimes there just wasn’t enough money. I had Social Security benefits, but it was not enough. It didn’t cover everything, so it was a huge struggle,” she says.

When Caity discovered FOOD For Lane County, she found more than food for the day. She enrolled in our nutrition education classes with her grandchildren and started a garden (with plants from FFLC’s garden programs). Now, they cook together “from scratch” and Caity volunteers for FFLC as a board member.

Your gift will provide the types of food all children and families need most: fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy grains, and real protein which are often the most expensive foods.

Thank you for your support. 92 cents of every dollar goes directly to programs that help fight hunger and its root causes.
