Youth Farm Caretaker Richard Marshall

We mourn the tragic loss of our Volunteer Caretaker Richard Marshall. Richard, who has been at the FOOD For Lane County Youth Farm for the past 10 years, was found deceased on-site Monday evening. “We are shocked and saddened by this tragic event. We will do everything we can to support our staff, interns and volunteers through this difficult time” Executive Director, Tom Mulhern.
Richard was an important part of the Youth Farm program. His presence will be greatly missed. “Although Richard wasn’t involved in the day to day operations, we all interacted with him fairly regularly, he was a social guy, and always would stop to say hi” Jen Anonia, Garden’s Program Manager.
The Marshall family has a long history with FOOD for Lane County. Richard’s son, Evin, is a former FFLC employee. Evin was working in the FFLC Dining Room program when his father became the volunteer caretaker at the Youth Farm ten years ago.
The Youth Farm is currently closed. We are working hard to reopen the farm for the community to enjoy, once again.
Law enforcement officials are investigating this as a homicide. We ask the community to respect his family’s privacy at this time and keep them in your thoughts. If you have information that may help with this investigation, please contact the Springfield Police Investigations Division at (541) 726-3721.
